Dear colleagues and friends

The webpages of the Czech Neurosurgical Society have been up and running now for three years. We feel how important and indispensable the pages are for providing crucial information about our association, the latest news in expert educational system and for planning future congresses, workshops and other activities at home and abroad.

The historical section offers easy to find minutes of the meetings and a clearly arranged overview of the development of the CNS (Czech Neurosurgical Society). It first began in 1955 as a neurosurgical committee within the Surgical Society; later, in 1965, this committee became a separate neurosurgical section and finally, in 1968, an independent Czech Neurosurgical Society was established. The historical reviews of individual departments and clinics in our republic are quite interesting. Besides there are portraits of outstanding persons in our field (the scholar Z. Kunc, professor Z. Mraček, senior doctor E. Urbánková).

As for the current issues, the webpages offer information on the present board, contacts of the members and the revision committee. The up-to-date information on specialised, expert training and education and on internships and research fellowships at the accredited work-places is indispensable. A new system of specialised training has just been agreed and will be introduced in the next issue of the Bulletin of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. A calendar gives an overall view of educational and training undertakings and informs well ahead of all symposia and congresses.

In the future we will try to expand the part concerning the history of the field and continue with profiles of outstanding personalities. We are preparing a series on presidents of the association and we would like to make available the archives of eyewitnesses and historical films. Thanks to the initiative of EANS we are also preparing English version of the pages. We trust that the pages contribute to our members’ awareness of current issues in the neurosurgery association and that they will be a source of current, attractive contents contributing to the prosperity of our field. We hope that the organizers will always announce the dates of events well ahead and that the members of our society will actively participate in them.

With regards yours
